More than 2,000 cyclists took part in the annual Ben to the Shore Bike Tour on Sunday, July 26, riding from Philadelphia to Atlantic City during the 39th annual event.<\/p>\n

The 65-mile route began at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Old City, Philadelphia, with additional 30-mile and 10-mile options launching from various points in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

This charity bike tour blends community participation with philanthropy, drawing approximately 2,200 riders from 23 states and Canada.<\/p>\n

“My husband’s a police officer in Saint Clair, Pennsylvania. This is our third year doing the ride, so we come every year to support them and stay for the weekend,” said Karina Jones of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, in a statement shared with Action News 6abc<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ride funds scholarships for the Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation, raising money and support for families of local fallen first responders. Organizers said they aimed to raise about $1.5 million this year, according to Action News.<\/p>\n

“This entire event is probably the biggest lifeline to me and my daughters,” said Stephanie Mack in a statement shared with Action News. Mack has participated in the event every year since her late husband, Pennsylvania State Trooper Martin Mack, was killed in the line of duty in 2022.<\/p>\n
