Free music workshops, a variety of vendors, food, and blue grass recordings are available. The Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass Association, known as AFBA, was formed in October 1973, in Northampton County, for the purpose of preserving and promoting a unique form of American counry folk music called "bluegrass", made popular after World War II. The AFBA has been sponsoring festivals since around 1974, and starting using the Mountain View park location in 1989. Bluegrass originated as a blend of old time Appalachian ancestral Scots-Irish folk tunes combined with fast paced string instruments, like the banjo, madolin, violin, guitar and large bass fiddle. As, bluegrass evolved, flavorings of "jazz" and "the blues" were added and some developed their own particular style of bluegrass "pickin" and many, even today, compose new ballads.
