{"id":25553,"date":"2025-11-05T13:26:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T13:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/25553\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T13:26:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T13:26:19","slug":"democrat-sanfilippo-rolls-to-victory-in-erie-controllers-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/25553\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrat Sanfilippo rolls to victory in Erie controller&#8217;s race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brooke Sanfilippo, welcome to Erie City Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sanfilippo, a Democrat who defeated current City Council members Chuck Nelson and Ed Brzezinski to claim her party\u2019s nomination for city controller in the May primary, rolled to a decisive victory over Republican Matthew Strupczewski in the Nov. 4 municipal election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to unofficial vote totals from the Erie County Courthouse, with 100% of the city vote counted, Sanfilippo garnered 14,755 votes, or 73%, to 5,378 votes, or 27%, for Strupczewski.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Brooke Sanfilippo plans to seek the Democratic nomination for Erie city controller in the May 20, 2025 municipal primary.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"1234\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3569fa89b830332a70f1535d20e30464.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Brooke Sanfilippo plans to seek the Democratic nomination for Erie city controller in the May 20, 2025 municipal primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sanfilippo, 47, is a pension and 401(k) administration manager who previously worked for Erie County government.\u00a0She will take office in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Strupczewski is a 24-year-old U.S. Army officer. The controller is also tasked with verifying and auditing city records and accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The position currently pays $38,000 annually. However, City Council in September 2024 approved a 97% yearly pay boost for the controller&#8217;s post, increasing that salary to $75,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The raise takes effect in January, which means Sanfilippo will receive the higher salary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Contact Kevin Flowers at kflowers@timesnews.com.
