Mountain View carried the momentum from its District 2 championship win last week into the PIAA playoffs, but couldn\u2019t maintain it as the season came to an end in the first round.<\/p>\n
Addison Kilmer had 23 kills, seven blocks and five digs to lead the Lady Eagles in an intense, 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, 16-14) loss to District 4 champion Sayre on Tuesday night in the PIAA Class 1A girls volleyball tournament.<\/p>\n
Sayre (12-9) will play District 3 champion and undefeated Linville Hill (21-0) in the quarterfinals Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love all of these girls,\u201d Mountain View coach Bridget Evans said. \u201cI have known many of them since preschool with my own kids. I love watching the growth and improvement they have all shown.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am proud of them all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mountain View won its second straight District 2 Class 1A title last week with three-set sweeps over Lackawanna Trail and MMI Prep.<\/p>\n
Despite playing on the road at Sayre, the Lady Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, earning a 25-22 win in the first set and a 25-23 win in the second.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey played their butts off,\u201d Evans said. \u201cIt was a great game. Sayre was a great team to play. We rallied back from some holes that we got ourselves in and won the first two sets. The hustle was great, and I couldn\u2019t ask for anything more.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sayre, however, fought back to tie with a 26-24 win in the third set and a 25-14 win in the fourth. For the second straight season, Mountain View was forced into a deciding fifth set and a race to 15. Last year, the Lady Eagles defeated Northern Bradford. This season, Sayre pulled out a 16-14 win.<\/p>\n
Aubrey Sanders had 32 assists and six digs, Karley Norton added six kills and two digs, Addison Tompkins had three kills and two digs, Abbie Mitchell had four digs and Sophia Davis had four digs and three aces for the Lady Eagles (12-13).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe outcome wasn\u2019t what we hoped for, but my girls should hold their heads high and be proud of their accomplishments this season,\u201d Evans said. \u201cBack-to-back District 2 championships hadn\u2019t happened in 25 years at our school, and these girls did it with a new coaching staff. That says a lot about this team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Emmaus 3, Delaware Valley 0: At Delaware Valley, Paris Machado had eight kills and Cece Dickerson had seven to lead the Lady Warriors, who lost to District 11 champion Emmaus, 25-22, 25-16, 25-13.<\/p>\n
Emmaus (21-4) will face District 1 champion Spring Ford (25-0) in Saturday\u2019s quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
\u201cOverall, this season will go down as one of my favorites,\u201d Delaware Valley coach Karley May said. \u201cOn and off the court, they have just been so amazing to work with and be with. They\u2019re all competitors, and they would do whatever they could to improve.\u201d<\/p>\n
Makayley Hughes had 18 assists, three kills and two blocks, and Kate Prior had eight digs. Hughes reached 1,000 career assists, and Prior passed the 500 career dig mark during the regular season for the Lady Warriors (15-3).<\/p>\n
