PennDOT compiled the statistics using crash reports submitted by state, county and municipal police departments, as well as other law enforcement agencies. <\/p>\n
Hundreds of crashes reported each day<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania averaged about 300 crashes each day in 2025, or about 13 per hour. The numbers showed that an average of three people died and 178 were injured each day. <\/p>\n
Based on the state’s estimated population of more than 13 million:<\/p>\n
One in every 55 people was involved in a crash. One in every 12,473 people died in a crash. One in every 201 people was injured in a crash. <\/p>\n
PennDOT also reported that male drivers were involved in more crashes than female drivers across every age group, with men ages 21 to 25 accounting for the highest. <\/p>\n
Crashes by month, holiday<\/p>\n
December had the most crashes in 2025 with 11,009, followed by October and January, according to the report.<\/p>\n
The numbers showed that July and October recorded the highest number of crash-related deaths, with 114 each. <\/p>\n
According to PennDOT, holiday periods accounted for 14,324 crashes and 198 deaths. The pre-Christmas period had the most crashes, with 1,512, while the period before Independence Day had the most crash-related deaths, with 21. <\/p>\n
Alcohol-related crashes<\/p>\n
PennDOT recorded 7,316 alcohol-related crashes in 2025, down from 7,745 the previous year. Alcohol-related deaths also fell from 244 in 2024 to 196 in 2025. <\/p>\n
Alcohol-related crashes by the numbers:<\/p>\n
About 20 alcohol-related crashes happened each day.An average of 12 people were injured in alcohol-related crashes daily.73% of drinking drivers involved in crashes were male.60% of alcohol-related crashes happened after dark, typically on weekends.Drivers ages 21 to 25 had the highest alcohol-related crash rate, at 5.5%.The same age group accounted for the largest percentage of drinking-driver deaths, at 25.8%. Pedestrian, motorcycle crashes decline<\/p>\n
According to PennDOT, 160 people were killed out of 2,867 crashes involving pedestrians in 2025, the lowest numbers recorded in five years. <\/p>\n
Motorcycle crashes also decreased by more than 11%, falling to 2,927 in 2025, according to the report. PennDOT said motorcycle deaths dropped by more than 14%, from 218 in 2024 to 186 in 2025. <\/p>\n
Bicycle crash deaths reach five-year high<\/p>\n
However, bicycle crashes continued an upward five-year trend, increasing from 766 in 2021 to 1,350 in 2025, according to PennDOT. <\/p>\n
Twenty-eight bicyclists were killed, and 1,335 were injured in 2025. The number of bicycle crash deaths was the highest recorded in five years. <\/p>\n
School bus crash deaths rise<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania had 237 school bus crashes in 2025, up from 221 in 2024. Those crashes killed seven people, the highest total in five years, and injured 248 others, PennDOT said.<\/p>\n
None of those killed was aboard a school bus at the time of the crash, according to the report. <\/p>\n
Work zone, train crashes<\/p>\n
Forty-three percent of work zone crashes resulted in an injury or death, according to the report. <\/p>\n
Crashes involving trains and motor vehicles represented a small portion of Pennsylvania\u2019s statewide total. Two people were killed in those crashes in 2025, bringing the five-year death toll to 10. <\/p>\n
