MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Police are investigating reports of a loud explosion that was heard across the Moosic area Friday evening, but authorities say they have not found a source.<\/p>\n
The Moosic Borough Police Department said it began receiving multiple 911 calls, along with calls to the police station, at about 8 p.m. from residents reporting what they described as a large explosion.<\/p>\n
Officers, along with firefighters from Station 98 and surrounding EMS agencies, conducted an extensive search of the borough but were unable to locate the source of the reported blast.<\/p>\n
Police also contacted the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton International Airport, which confirmed there was no aircraft activity in the area that would have caused a sonic boom.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they have not received any reports of property damage, fires or power outages connected to the incident.<\/p>\n
At this time, police say the cause of the reported explosion remains unknown, and there is no known threat to the public.<\/p>\n
