Philadelphia Police began National Night Out celebrations on Friday and will continue events across the city next week.<\/p>\n
National Night Out is an annual celebration focused on bringing police and communities across the country closer together by strengthening relationships and building trust between law enforcement and neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
The event was founded in the Philadelphia region in 1984 by Matt Peskin. Since then, it has expanded nationwide and includes block parties, cookouts, music, games and resource fairs.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s events in Philadelphia will give residents the chance to meet with police officers and commanders who serve their neighborhoods and include family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n
