{"id":257125,"date":"2026-08-01T13:05:24","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T13:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/257125\/"},"modified":"2026-08-01T13:05:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T13:05:24","slug":"former-gayborhood-bar-bouncer-sentenced-for-fatally-punching-patron-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/257125\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Gayborhood bar bouncer sentenced for fatally punching patron in 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 A former bouncer convicted of killing a bar patron outside a club in the Gayborhood four years ago will spend up to five years behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Frye was acquitted of third-degree murder back in June, but he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/news\/local\/manslaughter-conviction-2022-tabu-killing\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">convicted of involuntary manslaughter<\/a> for the punching death of 41-year-old Eric Pope outside of the former Tabu lounge and sports bar at 12th and Manning streets, where Frye worked as a bouncer.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said Frye punched Pope once outside of the Center City club in April 2022 after Pope was escorted out for being intoxicated.<\/p>\n<p>Pope fell backward and hit his head. He was hospitalized at Jefferson University Hospital and died days later from blunt force trauma.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors on Friday brought in members of Pope\u2019s family to witness Common Pleas Judge Roxanne Covington sentence Frye to 2 \u00bd to five years behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>Frye will receive credit for time served.
