Alumni Theater Company overcomes venue change to stage musical in Oakland<\/p>\n

The show must go on\u2014that’s what Alumni Theater Company is saying after an unexpected setback almost halted their staging of the musical “Once on This Island” this weekend.<\/p>\n

The production had to find a new venue after staffing changes ended its original partnership with Pittsburgh Public Theater.<\/p>\n

The company said support from the local arts community kept the production on track.<\/p>\n

“The arts are alive in our city, and it’s alive by young people. Our young black artists are killing it on stage; they’re finding purpose, they’re finding motivation, they’re developing camaraderie, teamwork, and self-confidence. And really just exploring who they are as people and as artists,” Executive Director of Alumni Theater Company Bridgette Perdue told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 on Friday. <\/p>\n

The performances will take place at the Charity Randall Theatre in North Oakland. <\/p>\n
