An Allentown man will face life in prison without parole\u00a0after being convicted\u00a0of a September 2023 murder, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan.<\/p>\n
Evander Thompson, 32, was convicted Thursday of all charges in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Orlando Ibanez, who was killed on Sept. 23, 2023.<\/p>\n
According to officials, Allentown Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on the second floor of an apartment\u00a0building\u00a0in the 500 block of West Allen Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found the body of Ibanez, 62 at the apartment\u00a0entrance, with shell casings\u00a0nearby, officials said.<\/p>\n
Investigators\u00a0said\u00a0city surveillance\u00a0footage showed Thompson entering\u00a0the apartment\u00a0shortly before the\u00a0shooting and\u00a0leaving\u00a0the building several minutes later.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police also\u00a0recovered\u00a0footage of Thompson using his cellphone minutes after the shooting.\u00a0After\u00a0investigators obtained and searched the phone with a warrant, they found a message Thompson sent his partner that read,\u00a0“he dead.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Authorities said they later found a gun in the possession of Thompson’s partner’s minor son. Investigators determined it was the murder weapon after matching it to the shell casings recovered at the scene.<\/p>\n
Thompson was convicted of first-degree\u00a0murder and\u00a0carrying a firearm without a license.<\/p>\n
