Reading, one of the real estate market areas served by members of the Reading-Berks Association of Realtors (R-BAR), ranked No. 6 on the Summer 2026 Housing Market Ranking issued jointly by The Wall Street Journal and Realtor.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to information from The Wall Street Journal and Realtor.com: \u201cThe Summer 2026 ranking evaluates the 200 most populous U.S. metropolitan areas using a combination of housing market conditions and broader measures of economic health and livability. Together, these factors highlight markets where buyers are more likely to find balance in an otherwise challenging housing environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis recognition isn\u2019t just about housing; it\u2019s about community,\u201d said Melissa Fox, president of R-BAR. \u201cIt reflects the collaboration between homeowners, businesses, local leaders, and Realtors, who work every day to make Berks County a place where people want to put down roots and build their future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Top 10 Summer 2026 Housing Market Ranking:<\/p>\n

2. Appleton, Wis.<\/p>\n

3. Lancaster<\/p>\n

4. Canton-Massilon, Ohio<\/p>\n

5. Springfield, Mass.<\/p>\n

6. Reading<\/p>\n

7. Manchester-Nashua, N.H.<\/p>\n

8. Lynchburg, Va.<\/p>\n

9. Rockford, Ill.<\/p>\n

10. Akron, Ohio<\/p>\n

According to the jointly issued report, the ranking evaluates the 200 most populous core-based statistical areas, as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau, and defined by July 2023 OMB delineation standards for eight indicators across two broad categories: real estate market (60%) and economic health and quality of life (40%).<\/p>\n

Each market is ranked on a scale of 0 to 100 according to the category indicators, and the overall result is based on the weighted sum of these rankings. The real estate market category indicators are real estate demand (15%), based on average pageviews per property; real estate supply (15%), based on median days on market for real estate listings; median listing price trend (10%), based on annual price growth over the quarter; property taxes (10%); and climate risk to properties (10%).<\/p>\n

The economic and quality of life category indicators are unemployment (5%); wages (5%); regional price parities (5%); the share of foreign born (5%); small businesses (5%); amenities (10%), measured as the average number of stores per specific \u201ceveryday splurge\u201d category (coffee, upscale\/specialty grocery, home improvement, fitness) per capita in an area; and commute time (5%).<\/p>\n

The Reading-Berks Association of Realtors is a professional trade association for licensed real estate practitioners. Membership in the organization is voluntary and consists of both residential and commercial agents and brokers as well as industry affiliates.
