The Oley Fire Company Peach Festival is set for Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. at the company fairgrounds, 26 Jefferson St. There will be peaches and ice cream available along with other food options. A car cruise and garden tractor pulls start at noon. The New Individuals perform from 6 to 9. Other activities include a Chinese auction, 50\/50 bingo, cornhole and quoits. History program<\/p>\n

\u201cColonial Taverns: Where a Revolution Was Brewing\u201d will be presented by Chester County park ranger Jay Erb Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Visitor Center at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, Union Township. The free program is presented by the Friends of Hopewell Furnace.<\/p>\n

Farmers market<\/p>\n

\u2018Seeds of Conflict\u2019<\/p>\n

The Tulpehocken Settlement Historical Society will host \u201cSeeds of Conflict: The Walking Purchase and the French and Indian War on Pennsylvania\u2019s Frontier\u201d at its meeting Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at 116 N. Front St., Womelsdorf<\/p>\n

The presentation led by Susan Frey will explore the events that reshaped Colonial Pennsylvania, transforming a colony known for relatively peaceful relations between Native Americans and European settlers into a frontier marked by fear, forts and conflict.<\/p>\n

Night at the Museum<\/p>\n

The Reading Public Museum is presenting its annual Night at the Museum Sept. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is an after-hours celebration of the museum\u2019s fall season, including its \u201cRockwell\/Wyeth: Icons of Americana\u201d exhibition.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the illustrations of Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth, the event reflects classic Americana of the 1940s and 1950s. There will be music, food, an open bar, silent auction, antique cars and interactive activities set against the backdrop of the exhibition. Vintage attire is encouraged but not required.<\/p>\n

Tickets are available at www.readingpublicmuseum.org\/natm<\/a>. Members: $100 per person\/$175 per couple. Non-Members: $125 per person\/$200 per couple.<\/p>\n

Lecture series<\/p>\n

Historian Aaron Sullivan will be the featured speaker in the Daniel Boone Homestead fall lecture series Sept. 13 at the Exeter Township historic site\u2019s DeTurk Education Center. He will discuss whether it was possible to sit out the American Revolution and the issues faced by people for whom neutrality was not an option. His focus will be on the challenges Americans faced during the British occupation of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s lectures, presented by Daniel Boone Homestead Associates, will focus on the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution.<\/p>\n

Open house<\/p>\n

The Ephrata Community Ambulance Association will be holding an open house Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ambulance station, 528 W. Main St. Community members can interact with first responders as local fire companies and police will have equipment and apparatus on display. That includes Ephrata\u2019s new ambulance and the lifesaving equipment it carries.<\/p>\n

There will be free food, ice cream and a barrel train. Car seat checks for parents will be provided.<\/p>\n

Church events<\/p>\n

Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100, Barto, is holding a 50-cent sale and indoor\/outdoor flea market Aug. 22 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The church is holding a free community giveaway (clothing, shoes, household items and more) Aug. 29 from 9 to 11.<\/p>\n
