{"id":25845,"date":"2025-11-05T18:51:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T18:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/25845\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T18:51:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T18:51:09","slug":"uchi-tyson-coles-acclaimed-sushi-restaurant-to-open-in-philly-on-nov-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/25845\/","title":{"rendered":"Uchi, Tyson Cole&#8217;s acclaimed sushi restaurant, to open in Philly on Nov. 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Beard Award-winning chef Tyson Cole will debut his much-anticipated sushi restaurant Uchi on Nov. 17, bringing his Japanese omakase experience to Rittenhouse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sushi bar and dining room will occupy a space on the ground floor of the Josephine apartment building at 1620 Sansom St. The menu blends traditional Japanese ingredients and techniques with American and European influences, with chef-selected dishes served at the bar and in the dining room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a data-original-title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/open-streets-center-city-december-2025\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open Streets will return to Center City, closing blocks near Rittenhouse Square to cars on Dec. 7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cole got his start in the restaurant world as a dishwasher at a sushi bar in Austin, where he later opened Uchi&#8217;s first incarnation in 2003. The restaurant drew acclaim for its experimental flavors and balance of high dining with a casual atmosphere. Texas Monthly <a data-original-title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmonthly.com\/food\/uchi-austin-20-years\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called<\/a> it the &#8220;most sought-after reservation in Austin&#8221; and said Cole &#8220;revolutionized the dining scene&#8221; in a city that hadn&#8217;t yet found its place in the national spotlight. The restaurant spawned a <a data-original-title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/30\/dining\/austin-texas-japanese-restaurants.html\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trend of new sushi restaurants in Austin<\/a> that fused Japanese culinary traditions with Texas smokehouse-inspired food. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Uchi \u2014 which translates to &#8220;home&#8221; \u2014 will now get its eighth U.S. location and first on the East Coast when it opens its doors in Philly this month.\u00a0Cole&#8217;s Hai Hospitality restaurant group also operates several other Asian-themed concepts in Austin and in cities across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Popular dishes at Uche include the Hama Chili, a yellowtail sashimi with an acidic bite, and the\u00a0Hirame Usuzukuri that combines flounder with candied quinoa and olive oil. The signature veggie dish is the Kinoko Usuzukuri with seasonal mushrooms, shallot and shiro zu.
