Volunteers reenact 1763 Battle of Bushy Run in Pennsylvania<\/p>\n

Hundreds of volunteers gathered in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, this weekend to reenact the 1763 Battle of Bushy Run, a turning point in Pontiac’s War. <\/p>\n

The battle, which occurred in August 1763, was a key moment in the effort to suppress an Indigenous rebellion at Fort Pitt. Warriors from several Native nations initially pushed back British General Henry Bouquet, but the British forces eventually regained control of the fort. <\/p>\n

“We’re all friends now. During the battle, it wasn’t so friendly. It was a tough battle,” fur trader Dan Balzarini said. “As we were leaving Fort Ligonier, we were resting and refitting. We stopped at Bushy Run to get fresh water, and that’s when we were ambushed by the Natives who heard we were coming to relieve Fort Pitt,” Lt. Stephen Graham of the 77th Regiment said.<\/p>\n

The British victory at Bushy Run helped maintain control of the Upper Ohio Valley, which later became an important and contested western theater during the Revolutionary War. <\/p>\n
