POTTSTOWN, Pa – Can just one donor really make a difference?<\/p>\n
“There will be a screening process, and we will see if everyone can donate but we want the community here,” said Sarah Kennah with LifePlasma Blood Center.<\/p>\n
Maybe. Only one donor so far when we’d stopped by a blood drive at Life Plasma Blood Center in Pottstown, Montgomery County in honor of fallen Central Berks Police Officer Kristen Yeager. But in addition to life saving blood, she also left behind a message that is resonating.<\/p>\n
“It really shows me that our community really cares for one another that a stranger would care for a police officer’s children it’s kept in their hearts in the community,” Kennah said.<\/p>\n
It’s a blood drive amidst a national blood shortage, and a community still grieving a loss.<\/p>\n
“We came up with this idea of not just supporting the community but also Officer Yeager’s family. But not only is it a blood donation, it\u2019s a blood drive to help patients in the community,” Kennah said.<\/p>\n
The staff is asking first time donors or maybe someone who hasn’t donated in a while to come out for this special cause and they say the process is very easy.<\/p>\n
“Ideally, the whole process will take about 30 minutes. It’s just a simple check in a health questionnaire, mini health check, if nothing comes up, we can donate the blood,” Kennah said.<\/p>\n
A special event is also in the works amidst the ongoing drive itself.<\/p>\n
“August 12th, we will have a little event where our own staff will donate blood in honor of Officer Yeager,” she said.<\/p>\n
