According to Sports talent manager Darren Witcoop, Birmingham are looking to loan out left-sided defender Lee Buchanan with Luton Town and Reading both exploring the deal.

Birmingham City signed the defender from German club Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee in 2023. Buchanan began his career at Derby County but moved to the Bundesliga in 2022, where he made 23 appearances.

The former England Under-21 international played 75 games for the Rams across three seasons before deciding to leave after they were relegated to League One.

Since joining Birmingham City Buchanan has dealt with an injury that has seen him without a competitive fixture for 20 months due to a knee injury sustained in 2024.

Buchanan has only played 39 games across all competitions for the Blues since joining in 2023, but has been involved this pre-season and has gone through unscathed with the 25-year-old looking to get back to playing regular football.

The defender still has two years remaining on his contract with Birmingham City.

The Blues’ manager Chris Davies has been cautious with Buchanan in pre-season and has told local media that he is looking to hold talks with the defender

“One thing I will say is Lee has been training very consistently and very well. He’s looked strong,” said Davies.

“It’s been really hard for Lee because he’s just broken down in the two years I’ve been here with a couple of nasty injuries, but he’s strung together a pre-season now which is really promising.

“I’ll speak to Lee in the next coming weeks. For him, regardless of anything right now, the main focus has to be to keep getting fitter and stronger and then we’ll work out what the right path forward is.”

According to Sports talent manager Darren Witcoop, Birmingham are looking to loan out left-sided defender Lee Buchanan with…

[11
128,130,129
post-258918","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-reading","tag-reading-city","tag-reading-city-headlines","tag-reading-city-news
["GET
