{"id":259106,"date":"2026-08-04T18:48:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T18:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/259106\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T18:48:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T18:48:10","slug":"police-release-name-of-teen-driver-in-fatal-berks-quarry-plunge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/259106\/","title":{"rendered":"Police release name of teen driver in fatal Berks quarry plunge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nathan Wilczynski, 18, of Spring Township was the driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingeagle.com\/2026\/08\/02\/man-18-found-dead-in-spring-township-quarry\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killed<\/a> Sunday morning when a car plunged into a water-filled former quarry in the township, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Wilczynski, who graduated in June from Wilson High School, was pronounced dead by a Berks County deputy coroner after the vehicle he had been driving was removed from the former E.J. Breneman Quarry on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy Monday determined the cause of death was drowning. A ruling on the manner of death is pending further investigation by Spring Township police and the coroner\u2019s office, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The incident at Yerger Boulevard and State Hill Road was reported to the Berks County 911 Center Sunday at about 6:45 a.m. as a water emergency, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Responders saw a set of tire tracks leading to the quarry, which is on township-owned property next to the township\u2019s Yerger Boulevard yard-waste drop-off site.
