Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding of urban and poor drainage areas, creeks and streams. The greatest risk of locally heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding will be along and just northwest of the Interstate 95 corridor.National Weather Service

An upper-level trough and surface low-pressure system moving across New York and New England will drive ongoing precipitation through Monday.

Precipitation rates will be heaviest during the afternoon and evening hours, with total rainfall expected to range from 1 to 3 inches across many areas, though localized amounts of 4 to 5 inches are possible in the heaviest rain cores.

At Lehigh Valley International Airport, however, the weather service forecasts between 0.10 and 0.25 of an inch of rain from Monday morning into the afternoon, with the possibility of precipitation dropping to zero by around 5 p.m. The weather service recorded more than an inch of rain Sunday night at the airport, followed by about another quarter-inch through sunrise.

Skies are forecast to become mostly clear by Monday evening at the airport outside Allentown.

The weather service advises residents in flood-prone areas to be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary. Storm motions will likely be slow, which increases the potential for localized heavy rainfall and flash flooding in some areas.

The severe weather threat remains uncertain due to cloud cover and ongoing morning showers and thunderstorms limiting atmospheric heating. However, if sufficient instability develops during the day, combined with increasing wind shear ahead of the front, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible.

A warm front will lift northward through the region Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing the next chance for showers and storms. Storm motions will again be slow, and soil drenched from rainfall Sunday into Monday is expected to increase the flash flooding threat once again in the region.

For the latter half of the week, expect a warm, humid and at times stormy pattern.

The region will be positioned between a Bermuda high-pressure system to the east and a nearly stationary mid-level trough over the Western Great Lakes. This setup will produce warm and moist southwesterly flow, resulting in hot and humid conditions with daily rain chances from afternoon sea-breeze development and embedded short-wave troughs moving northeast across the area.

Current weather radar

Showers are likely to persist with chances for thunderstorms Monday across the Lehigh Valley, with the potential for…

[10
119,121,120
post-259300","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-allentown","tag-allentown","tag-allentown-headlines","tag-allentown-news
["GET
