{"id":259724,"date":"2026-08-05T15:42:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T15:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/259724\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T15:42:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T15:42:07","slug":"report-pirates-releasing-dh-marcell-ozuna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/259724\/","title":{"rendered":"REPORT: Pirates releasing DH Marcell Ozuna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to reports, the Pirates are releasing designated hitter Marcell Ozuna.<\/p>\n<p>Post-Gazette Pirates reporter<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/colin_beazley\/status\/2085013540948066635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> Colin Beazley <\/a>and others are reporting the release. <\/p>\n<p>Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Ozuna is currently hitting .203 with an OPS of .612.<\/p>\n<p>He has 51 hits over 251 at bats, with eight home runs and 29 RBI through 70 games.<\/p>\n<p>He has a -1.0 WAR and the Pirates have a record of 28-42 when he plays.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Pirates and has been one of the most disappointing free agent signings for the Pirates in recent memory.<\/p>\n<p>Infielder\/outfielder Ronny Simon is reportedly the corresponding move and will be called up to Pittsburgh from Triple-A Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<p>Simon is currently hitting .330 with the Indians.<\/p>\n<p>He has 33 stolen bases, seven home runs, 63 RBI and an OPS of .889. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"According to reports, the Pirates are releasing designated hitter Marcell Ozuna.
