The parents sat mere feet away from each other, occasionally sharing glances, and Tavarez-Cepeda at one point breaking down in tears after seeing a photo of the baby before he died.<\/p>\n
The Commonwealth called medical staff from Reading Hospital to the stand, along with a forensic pathologist and county detective.<\/p>\n
The focus for both the prosecution and defense involved trying to get details on a narrow timeline of what happened between when the baby was left healthy with both parents in a room and when medical staff returned to find the baby suffering from blunt forced trauma.<\/p>\n
Defense attorneys for the parents argued that there was not enough burden of proof and asked the case to be dismissed.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said that the parents were the only ones in the room when police believe the abuse took place.<\/p>\n
