The Pittsburgh CLO and Pittsburgh Public Theater have completed their merger, though the name of the new, combined organization has not been determined.<\/p>\n
The merger was completed July 31 and announced the same day. The two theatrical companies have been exploring a merger since last year. At one point, City Theatre on Pittsburgh\u2019s South Side was also part of the merger talks, but ultimately dropped out.<\/p>\n
Tom McGough, who chairs the board of the new organization, called it \u201ca classic Pittsburgh story: people with widely different perspectives coming together to do something that just needed doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Pittsburgh CLO\u2019s productions have primarily taken place in the downtown Benedum Center, while Pittsburgh Public Theater\u2019s productions have been nearby at the O\u2019Reilly Theater. The new company will operate year-round, with alternating venues depending on the production.<\/p>\n
The education programs of both the CLO and Pittsburgh Public Theater will be combined in the merger.<\/p>\n
The newly formed company\u2019s first offerings will be the Pittsburgh premiere of \u201cHow Shakespeare Saved My Life,\u201d by Jacob Ming-Trent, the adults-only comedy \u201cWho\u2019s Holiday!\u201d and a Pittsburgh favorite, \u201cA Musical Christmas Carol.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also on the schedule for the inaugural season are William Shakespeare\u2019s \u201cA Comedy of Errors\u201d and the Pittsburgh premiere of \u201cPurpose,\u201d a Pulitzer Prize \u2013 and Tony Award-winning drama.<\/p>\n
