Thousands of sunflowers are expected to reach peak bloom in Girard as one of the region’s most popular summer traditions returns, drawing visitors from across northwestern Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
The annual sunflower celebration gives guests the opportunity to stroll through acres of blooming flowers while taking part in a variety of special events throughout the festival.<\/p>\n
This year’s lineup includes a performance by the Erie Philharmonic String Ensemble, along with several hands-on activities. Visitors can participate in a sunflower painting class, where each attendee will decorate a sunflower-themed serving tray, or join a pottery workshop to create a sunflower-inspired charcuterie tray.<\/p>\n
The festival also serves as the backdrop for the debut of a new locally produced spirit with ties to Girard.<\/p>\n
The Wilds Sonshine Factory has partnered with the Hagen History Center to create 1898 Bayfront Reserve, a limited-edition spirit crafted from sunflowers grown in Girard.<\/p>\n
The first bottles from the inaugural run will be introduced during a private tasting event hosted by the Hagen History Center in mid-August. Customers who preordered the spirit will receive the remaining bottles before it becomes available to the general public.<\/p>\n
