<\/p>\nJazz Fest is lighting up downtown Scranton, celebrating 100 years of jazz icons Miles Davis and John Coltrane.<\/p>\n
SCRANTON, Pa. \u2014 It’s time to put on your dancing shoes; Jazz Fest is here. Business owners downtown are getting ready to see venues full of music in different parts of the city, like on Penn Ave.<\/p>\n
Kelliann Carey with The Daisy Collective on Penn Ave is ready.<\/p>\n
“It’s amazing it’s so nice for our block, we really have a great community down here on Penn Ave so that being right there is really great and exciting for us,” Carey said. “It’s really nice for business especially as we get into our next season, summer slows down, everyone’s on vacation, to have this boost come in right as we get all of our fall inventory and all of that, it’s a great start to a new season for us.”<\/p>\n

Marko Marcinko with the Scranton Jazz Festival said this year is extra special.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We’re celebrating 100 years of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, two of the greatest musicians in the jazz idiom, in American history and world history, and we’re very fortunate to have Ron Carter, living legend, bass player who played with miles Davis, he’s 89 years old, he’s going to join us this weekend to perform at the festival,” Marcinko said. “We’re also very fortunate because we’re going to have the Dirty Dozen Brass Band directly coming up from New Orleans.”<\/p>\n
People are coming in from all over to listen to good music.<\/p>\n
“We get tons of people from out of state of course, we even have tickets sold from Georgia so, so people are coming up from the state of Georgia to Scranton this weekend, the hotels are filled, it’s a wonderful thing,” Marcinko said.<\/p>\n
