{"id":26140,"date":"2025-11-06T00:39:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T00:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/26140\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T00:39:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T00:39:15","slug":"joe-khan-wins-bucks-county-district-attorneys-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/26140\/","title":{"rendered":"Joe Khan wins Bucks County district attorney\u2019s race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Khan told WHYY News that as district attorney, one of his top priorities will be addressing the \u201cenvironmental catastrophe\u201d in Upper Makefield, where a jet fuel leak contaminated people\u2019s drinking water in January.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to make sure we rebuild this office to address the challenges that we face in the 21st century to keep people safe,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s going to begin by making good on my promise to have a DA\u2019s office that enforces every person\u2019s right to a clean environment here in Bucks County.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Khan, 50, graduated from University of Chicago Law School. He served as an assistant district attorney at the Philadelphia District Attorney\u2019s Office, and as a federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.\n<\/p>\n<p>He currently lives in Doylestown with his two children, <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/pennsylvania-election-2025-bucks-county-district-attorney\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">whom he cited as his main motivation<\/a> for running for district attorney.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Democrats swept all five of the county\u2019s row office races in an off-year election that saw close to 50% voter turnout. Khan said the victories are a sign of what the party can accomplish going forward.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we won big, and I think that this is a message of inspiration to folks all across the country about how we need to approach these elections,\u201d he said. \u201cBeing true to our values, meeting people where they are, and being authentic when we show up to speak with them.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Schorn said that although she lost the election, she has \u201chad such an overwhelming outpouring of support that words cannot adequately express just how much it means.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>She credited her colleagues in the DA\u2019s Office with the work they do, and urged the county to raise their pay.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day, I see first hand what the prosecutors in my office do. They too see and hear the unimaginable. When the need arises, they go out to murder scenes, fatal crashes, attend autopsies and child forensic interviews where one cannot unsee or unhear what was seen and heard.
