(WHTM) \u2013 The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is sending $100 to help eligible residents pay for their energy bills.<\/p>\n
The department announced Thursday that eligible households are those that received support from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and have at least one family member who has a disability, is age 60 or older, or is a child six years old or younger.<\/p>\n
Approximately 193,000 households will be automatically issued the supplemental LIHEAP payment to the same utility vendor who received their cash grant during LIHEAP season.<\/p>\n
Households will receive a notice indicating if they are eligible, with payments being distributed to companies starting on July 29.<\/p>\n
“We know that even though winter is over, many Pennsylvanians may still need assistance with utility bills from last season. LIHEAP helps some of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens \u2013 children, older Pennsylvanians, people with disabilities, and low-income families \u2013 make ends meet and keep their homes safer, and we are pleased to be able to offer this one-time supplemental payment to LIHEAP households,” said Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh.<\/p>\n
LIHEAP is a federally funded program that assists with household heating bills; if the supplemental payment is issued to an electric vendor, it could be applied to cooling costs.<\/p>\n
Details on the opening of the 2026-27 LIHEAP season will be available later this year.<\/p>\n
