{"id":262134,"date":"2026-08-09T14:30:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T14:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/262134\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T14:30:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T14:30:07","slug":"nso-excited-to-meet-you-meet-2026-orientation-leader-brenda-olmeda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/262134\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;(N)SO excited to meet you&#8217;: Meet 2026 orientation leader Brenda Olmeda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"EN-US\">DUNMORE, Pa. \u2014 Starting college can bring a mix of excitement and nerves, and student leaders play a key role in helping <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/admission\/first-year-students\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">first-year students<\/a> navigate that transition.\u202fAs part of Penn State Scranton\u2019s efforts to welcome the class of 2030, it is introducing its <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/new-student-orientation-program\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">New Student Orientation (NSO) Program<\/a> leaders through a series of Q&amp;As. <\/p>\n<p>Orientation leader\u202fBrenda Olmeda <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Brenda Olmeda is a fourth-year student majoring in <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/academics\/degrees\/bachelors\/hdfs\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">human development and family studies<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Q: Why did you choose Penn State Scranton? <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: I chose Penn State Scranton because of my brother. <\/p>\n<p>Q: What\u2019s one piece of advice you\u2019d give to new students? <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: Don\u2019t be afraid to try new things. <\/p>\n<p>Q: Why should new students get involved on campus? <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: New students <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/feature\/students-get-involved-clubs-penn-state-scranton\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">get involved<\/a> on campus so they could connect with others and try new things. <\/p>\n<p>Q: What\u2019s one must-have item or life hack for surviving your first year of college?\u202f <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: One must-have item would be a water bottle. <\/p>\n<p>Q: What\u2019s been your favorite Penn State Scranton memory so far? <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: I enjoy going on rides when I have away games. <\/p>\n<p>Q: How has being an NSO Leader impacted your college experience? <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: Since this year is my first year as an NSO leader, I would say it has impacted my college experience by being more open and talking more without being shy. <\/p>\n<p>Q: What\u2019s one thing you wish you knew before starting college? <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">Olmeda: That you are not alone and that there are people that will help you. <\/p>\n<p>New Student Orientation <\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/new-student-orientation-program\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">New Student Orientation<\/a> is designed to help incoming\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/parents-families\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">students and their families<\/a>\u202fget to know\u202fPenn State Scranton.\u202fThis interactive event covers everything from\u202facademics\u202fand <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/academic-advising\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">advising<\/a>\u202fto <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/financial-aid\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">financial aid<\/a>, billing and <a href=\"https:\/\/scranton.psu.edu\/student-life\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">student services<\/a>.
