After two water main breaks in downtown Scranton last month, a small valve leak on North Washington Avenue is related to repairs and not a new water main break, Pennsylvania American Water spokeswomen Alana Roberts said Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re aware of a small valve leak near the site of a recent main repair and have been monitoring it closely,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cSome water reaching the surface can occur as infrastructure settles following a repair, and we have scheduled evening work to address it in order to minimize disruption to motorists, residents and businesses. Customers should not be concerned, as this is a localized issue.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first water main break \u2014 near the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Mulberry Street on July 16 \u2014 affected approximately 620 customers and forced several downtown businesses to close for multiple days. A boil-water advisory issued July 19 remained in place until July 22.<\/p>\n
The second break \u2014 on the 200 block of North Washington Avenue on July 27 \u2014 affected about 770 customers. Crews worked overnight to complete repairs by the next morning.
