BETHLEHEM, Pa. \u2013 A business that aims to \u201cchampion reuse and inspire a future where secondhand is second nature\u201d is expanding its footprint with a new retail location in the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n
A new Savers thrift store will hold a grand opening on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 2192 W. Union Blvd. in Bethlehem.<\/p>\n
The renovated space was previously home to a Big Lots store.<\/p>\n

The new Savers location will be the company\u2019s first Lehigh Valley store and will operate 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.<\/p>\n
The Savers family of thrift stores is the largest for-profit thrift operator in the United States and Canada, according to a corporate overview.<\/p>\n
By partnering with non-profit organizations, the company redirects billions of pounds of secondhand clothing and household goods away from landfills and onto its store racks and shelves for reuse \u2013 conserving the planet\u2019s natural resources.<\/p>\n
Over the last five years, 2021-2025, Savers diverted more than 3.6 billion pounds of goods from landfills and paid more than $534 million to its non-profit partners for secondhand clothing and household goods.<\/p>\n

Savers traces its origins to 1954, when its first thrift shop opened in an old movie theater in San Francisco\u2019s Mission District, according to a historical account.<\/p>\n
Since then, the business has opened more than 300 stores across the U.S., Canada and Australia, and it has consistently partnered with local nonprofit organizations.<\/p>\n
The company accepts donations of clothing and household items on their behalf, paying them for those goods, and helps fund programs in local communities.<\/p>\n

The Bethlehem location\u2019s donation center, accepting clothing, housewares, furniture, books and more, has temporary donation hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.<\/p>\n
