Facebook post<\/a> Monday morning written from Mimi’s perspective, thanking supporters and announcing that court proceedings in the case have concluded, clearing the way for her adoption.<\/p>\n“All of the court stuff is done and the Judge put the mean person who hurt me in jail for a while so it’s time to CELEBRATE!” the post said.<\/p>\n
Mimi was found in March in a wooded area after suffering severe abuse. According to authorities and rescuers, the shepherd’s muzzle and legs had been tightly bound with zip ties, her tail had been broken and she was left abandoned near a pond in cold, rainy weather.<\/p>\n
In the Facebook post, written as if Mimi were addressing supporters herself, the shelter recounted her ordeal and recovery.<\/p>\n
“I had been badly injured, my muzzle and my legs bound tight with zip ties, my tail bones broken, and then dumped in the rain left to die in the cold by a pond in the woods far from my home,” the post said.<\/p>\n
The case drew widespread attention across the Erie area and prompted an outpouring of community support. Pennsylvania State Police later arrested Roy King, 63, of Harborcreek, on charges that included torture and aggravated cruelty to animals.<\/p>\n
The shelter credited investigators, prosecutors and veterinary staff with helping save Mimi’s life and secure justice in the case.<\/p>\n

According to the post, Mimi’s adoptive mother was part of the veterinary team that treated her after she was rescued.<\/p>\n
“I met my mom at the hospital,” the post said. “She was on the team that spent hours and hours working on me and saved me.”<\/p>\n
While Mimi has made significant progress, the shelter said she continues to live with lasting physical and emotional effects from the abuse. The post said she remains sensitive around her paws and muzzle, is uncomfortable with people approaching from behind and is cautious around strangers.<\/p>\n
Still, the shelter said Mimi is thriving with her adoptive family.<\/p>\n
“I am the happiest I’ve ever been and owe it all to you guys,” the post said. “From the bottom of my heart … THANK YOU.”<\/p>\n
The ANNA Shelter said Mimi now spends most of her time with her adoptive parents and canine sibling, enjoying a safe and loving home after a months-long recovery.<\/p>\n
