ST. LOUIS \u2013 After a weekend that included high temperatures and two extra-inning games, Phillies manager Don Mattingly held a couple of his regulars out of the starting lineup for Monday\u2019s series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.<\/p>\n
Shortstop Trea Turner and catcher J.T. Realmuto both sat. Edmundo Sosa started at shortstop and Garrett Stubbs behind the plate. Realmuto will catch Cristopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola the next three days.<\/p>\n
Bryce Harper got \u201chalf a day off.\u201d He was the designated hitter with Derek Hill getting the call in right.<\/p>\n
With Harper serving as the DH, Kyle Schwarber started at first base with Alec Bohm sitting out.<\/p>\n
Mattingly revealed that Harper, who moved from first base to the outfield, is dealing with some general soreness that includes some knee soreness. Harper has played in all 119 of the team\u2019s games and would like to play in all 162.<\/p>\n
\u201cHarp\u2019s a little sore,\u201d Mattingly said. \u201cWe\u2019re taking care of his body so we figured we had to do that today. General soreness. Some knee soreness. Different things that have kind of been there. We figured him getting out (in right field) was going to push things. We\u2019ll stay on top of it. We talked. We\u2019re not going to run him into the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mattingly said Harper has dealt with some knee soreness since fouling a ball off his leg before the All-Star break.<\/p>\n
Bohm, who moved from third base to first base after the acquisition of Luis Arraez last week, was pushed out of the starting lineup by Schwarber for the second time in three games, but Mattingly doesn\u2019t envision it becoming a regular occurrence.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d rather not use Schwarb (at first base) too much,\u201d said Mattingly, adding that he was \u201cabsolutely\u201d committed to Bohm at the position.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, I think he\u2019s been really good over there,\u201d Mattingly added. \u201cYou take away the one play (in the 10th\u00a0inning Saturday night) and he\u2019s probably made four or five plays and made \u2018em look easy. His wing span is so big. He\u2019s just a great target for guys. You\u2019ve seen Trea pick up since he\u2019s been over there and (third baseman Bryson) Stott has been good. I like Bohm over there a lot. I think he\u2019s done a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n
Offensively, Bohm has had a rough season, hitting just .227 with a .647 OPS, far below his career norms.<\/p>\n

As expected, the Phillies placed reliever Caleb Kilian on the injured list with a strained left oblique. Mattingly said it was a \u201cmoderate\u201d strain.
