VisitErie has officially named Mark Jeanneret as its new president and chief executive officer, solidifying a leadership transition following the retirement of longtime President and CEO John Oliver. Jeanneret had been serving as interim president and CEO since May 2026 before being selected for the permanent position after a review by VisitErie’s Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
The board cited Jeanneret’s leadership, strategic vision, and commitment to advancing tourism and economic growth throughout Erie County as key factors in its decision. Board Chair Terry Cascioli praised Jeanneret’s performance during his interim tenure, noting that he demonstrated exceptional leadership and a strong dedication to VisitErie’s mission.<\/p>\n
Jeanneret brings extensive tourism and sports marketing experience to the role. Most recently, he served as executive director of the Erie Sports Commission, helping position Erie County as a leading sports tourism destination. During his tenure, the commission earned Sports ETA’s 2023 Sports Commission of the Year award and generated more than $120 million in economic impact through over 675 sporting events.<\/p>\n
His career with the Erie Sports Commission also includes service as the organization’s first events director, where he played a key role in securing major events such as the 2018 Ice Breaker Tournament presented by LECOM and the 2021 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four. Jeanneret has additionally held leadership positions with PA Sports, including serving four years as board chair.<\/p>\n
