\t\t\tOBITUARY\t\t<\/p>\n
John D. Kosack, 63, a resident of the Gardens of Green Ridge and then the Gino J. Merli Veterans \u2018 Center, Scranton, where he resided since February of this year, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, with his loving family by his side.<\/p>\n
\nBorn in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Ann (Lois) Kosack. John was a 1980 graduate of Scranton Central High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. He was an Eagle Scout and a former member of the Polish Club on Brick Avenue.<\/p>\n
\nJohn was an extremely friendly and outgoing person who never met a stranger. He loved sitting on the porch, waving to and chatting with anyone who passed by. He enjoyed taking care of Brownie, playing bingo and trivia, and spending time with those around him. John was also a familiar face at Neen\u2019s Diner, where he had his very own breakfast special, affectionately known as The Johnny.<\/p>\n
\nJohn is survived by his sister and primary caretaker, Ann Kosack, Scranton; his brother, Joe Kosack, Dunmore; his niece, Katherine Kosack and her fianc, Jamie Sutor, Tarzana, California; his nephew, Matthew Kosack and his fianc, Ana Mooney, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; several cousins; and a special friend, Cindy Constable, Dunmore.<\/p>\n
\nIn addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by cousin Bobby Farrell and his aunts and uncles.<\/p>\n
\nJohn\u2019s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Gardens of Green Ridge and also to the Gino J. Merli Veterans\u2019 Center and the staff of Geisinger Community Medical Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided to John.<\/p>\n
\nThe funeral will be Saturday, August 15, 2026, from Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Rite of Committal and interment with military honors, will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 111 State Route 435, Elmhurst Township. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in John\u2019s memory may be made to donor\u2019s favorite charity.<\/p>\n
