(WKYT) &#8211; The Lexington Fayette Urban County Council passed the first reading of an ordinance designed to stop people from blocking bike lanes on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The ordinance would stop people from stopping, standing or parking in a designated bike lane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Anyone caught blocking a lane would face a $50 to $100 fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There are some exceptions allowed in the ordinance:<\/p>\n<p>Rideshare\/taxi and delivery drivers are allowed to stop in bike lanes for up to ten minutes for active pick-ups, drop-offs or loading;Public transit (at designated stops) and emergency vehicles are fully exempt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Enforcement of the ordinance would be handled by LexPark downtown and by the Lexington Police Department elsewhere, following a 30-45-day public education period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The ordinance requires a second reading to become law.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link | text-reset d-block h-100 w-100\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/page\/wkyt-apps-for-ios-and-android-devices\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"WKYT Streaming Apps\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786684448_231_MEPHTWNVMREWLEQQWWFJM27ZMA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Employee sick leave bank<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The council also voted to move forward with a city employee sick leave bank program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It would allow city employees to donate their unused sick leave hours to others who may be facing major medical events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Employees would only be able to borrow other people\u2019s time if they use all of their own sick leave hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The ordinance received its first reading on Thursday and will require another to become law.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WKYT.
