The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2023, on the second floor of 540 W. Allen St. After responding to a 911 call, Allentown police officers found Ibanez at the entrance to his apartment with a gunshot wound to the neck. Nearby, they found a shell casing.<\/p>\n
City surveillance cameras showed a man later identified as Thompson enter the home just prior to the shooting, where he remained for several minutes before running away. Video footage recovered by the investigators showed Thompson using his cellphone moments after the shooting. The phone was taken as evidence, and on it investigators found a message from Thompson to his girlfriend saying, \u201che dead.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thompson\u2019s defense attorney, Molly M. Heidorn, declined to discuss the officer\u2019s action at the trial.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy co-counsel, Rory Driscole, and I are preparing post-trial motions. In light of the pending proceedings, I believe further comment would be inappropriate at this time,\u201d she said Friday.<\/p>\n
According to court records, Rudolph was arrested shortly after returning to the police station from the courthouse around 10:24 am on July 29. A captain who came into contact with Rudolph noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from Rudolph\u2019s breath, court records say, and he had \u201cglassy eyes, body tremors and an unsteady gait.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rudolph admitted drinking a fifth of vodka the night before the trial, and admitted to driving to Allentown from Easton while intoxicated, court records say.<\/p>\n
He underwent a field sobriety test and breathalyzer test before he was arrested, and consented to a blood test. Court records do not say what Rudolph\u2019s blood alcohol level was.<\/p>\n
Rudolph could not be reached for comment Friday.
