A Scranton man in a stolen vehicle led troopers on a high-speed chase on Route 22 in Northampton County early Sunday, state police said.<\/p>\n
Yasin Sharif Kennedy, 49, is charged with felony counts of attempting to elude an officer, theft and receiving stolen property, as well as 35 summary traffic and motor vehicle offenses.<\/p>\n
Kennedy was arraigned Sunday before District Judge Robert Hawke, who set bail at $50,000. In lieu of bail, he was taken to the Northampton County Prison, where he remained Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The incident began shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday on Route 22 east in Hanover Twp.\u00a0A trooper spotted a stolen Honda Accord and began following the driver, later identified as Kennedy, with sirens and emergency lights activated, police said. The chase reached\u00a0speeds over 120 mph before\u00a0Kennedy crashed the Honda into a wooded area south of Route 22.<\/p>\n
Kennedy had a suspended driver\u2019s license and a warrant for his arrest for the stolen vehicle, as well as a parole violation out of Harrisburg, court records show.
