Erie County’s tourism industry continued its positive momentum during the second quarter of 2026, with increased visitor spending, strong hotel performance, and significant contributions to the local economy, according to the latest Visitor Snapshot report covering April 2026 through June 2026.<\/p>\n
One of the report’s most notable findings was a resurgence in hotel occupancy. June 2026 hotel occupancy reached 69.2%, marking the strongest June performance since the pandemic and nearly matching the pre-pandemic benchmark of 69.4% recorded in June 2019. The highest June occupancy rate on record remains 69.6% in 2014.<\/p>\n
Overall, average hotel occupancy during the second quarter was 58.9%, representing a 1.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n
Visitor spending also increased across all major sectors of Erie County’s tourism economy. The largest gains were seen in arts, entertainment, and attractions, which experienced a 3% increase in spending compared to 2025, reflecting continued interest in the region’s cultural and recreational offerings.<\/p>\n
The report found that 15% of all spending in Erie County came from visitors, an increase of one percentage point from the same period last year. Visitors accounted for 29% of retail spending, up 3% from 2025, while 13% of restaurant spending and 50% of arts, entertainment, and attraction spending came from out-of-market guests.<\/p>\n
A majority of visitors continued to come from outside Pennsylvania, with 59% of visitors originating from out of state. While this figure represented a slight 2% decrease year over year, Erie County continued to attract travelers from several key regional markets.<\/p>\n

Retail remained the leading activity category for visitors outside of accommodations, followed by outdoor recreation, food and beverage, attractions, and sports. These trends highlight the diverse experiences that continue to draw travelers to Erie County throughout the year.<\/p>\n
The report also showed growth in visitor device share, which reached 25%, a 10% increase from the previous year, indicating a growing presence of travelers throughout the destination.<\/p>\n
Visual data from the report illustrates visitors’ impact on local spending, with half of all arts, entertainment, and attraction expenditures in Erie County coming from visitors.<\/p>\n
