City of Scranton and state officials celebrated the opening of a soccer \u201cmini-pitch\u201d at Weston Field, 982 Providence Road, on Friday. In April, the U.S. Soccer Foundation and the Philadelphia Soccer 2026 organization that planned FIFA World Cup soccer matches in Philadelphia gave Scranton a $100,000 grant to install a soccer mini-pitch playing area at Weston Field. In July, Scranton was one of just three \u201cPennsylvania World Cup Fan Zones\u201d in the state that hosted FIFA World Cup watch parties between Independence Day and July 19, the date of the 2026 World Cup final. The $100,000 grant to Scranton came through Philadelphia Soccer 2026\u2019s Legacy Initiative to support the installation of the mini-pitch at Weston Field.<\/p>\n
