Scranton police arrested a Dunmore woman Monday after they found her drunk along a roadway, carrying her 11-month-old child in a car seat as her 7-year-old walked beside her, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to an area near the Harrison Avenue Bridge at about 10:45 p.m. A caller told dispatchers she had approached the woman near her vehicle and that her level of intoxication was cause for concern.<\/p>\n
When they arrived they found Yaditza Benitez-Rodriguez walking along the roadside with an 11-month-old child in a car seat and a 7-year old.<\/p>\n
Officers noted that as Benitez-Rodriguez was walking back to her vehicle carrying the child in the car seat, she was swaying side to side and was very unsteady on her feet. She had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol and couldn\u2019t provide clear answers to simple questions, officers said.<\/p>\n
A records check indicated the vehicle, which had its hazard lights on, was registered to Benitez-Rodriguez\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
She failed a field sobriety test.<\/p>\n
Benitez-Rodriguez told police her boyfriend was driving the car, but officers said the evidence indicated she was behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
In addition to a felony child endangerment charge, she is also charged with driving under the influence and recklessly endangering another person.<\/p>\n
Officers released the two children to Benitez-Rodriguez\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
Benitez-Rodriguez remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
