CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. \u2014 With a quick flip of dirt in Cranberry, officials started construction on the first Wegmans grocery store in the Pittsburgh region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is just a great opportunity for Wegmans and Cranberry to partner and bring another great shopping experience for our residents here in Cranberry Township,\u201d Bruce Hezlep, chairman of the Cranberry Township Board of Supervisors, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe heard it loud and clear from Cranberry specifically,\u201d said Tom Jeppi, the Store Manager for the Cranberry Wegmans. \u201cYou want Wegmans? We\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 115,000-square-foot location will hold everything Wegmans has to offer, including a Market Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating.<\/p>\n
\u201cCustomers will enjoy all of Wegmans\u2019 signature departments including fresh produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli, specialty cheese and an outstanding selection of wine and beer,\u201d Jeppi said.<\/p>\n
In early 2027, Wegmans will start hiring nearly 450 people for the new store.<\/p>\n
\u201cCustomer service level positions, team leader positions, department manager positions. We\u2019re going to be sourcing for all of those right here locally,\u201d Jeppi said.<\/p>\n
This new Wegmans is being built in the Cranberry Springs neighborhood.<\/p>\n
The land used to be home to a KOA Campground, but a lot of development has happened over the years.<\/p>\n
The store will be a neighbor to the UMPC Lemieux Sports Complex, and right next to The Reserve at Cranberry Springs apartments.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, we have 1,100 residents right behind us. They\u2019re going to be able to walk here every day and shop,\u201d Hezlep said.<\/p>\n
Township officials also said this will help bring more business to other stores and restaurants in Cranberry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re going to shop here, they\u2019re going to go to dinner maybe down the street, and Cranberry\u2019s becoming a destination for the outlying communities that surround us,\u201d Hezlep said.<\/p>\n
Wegmans said they\u2019re looking forward to opening day, which will be sometime in Fall 2027.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we turn the first shovels of dirt today, we\u2019re doing more than breaking ground. We\u2019re laying the foundation for something that will serve this community for generations to come,\u201d Jeppi said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
