{"id":266157,"date":"2026-08-16T00:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T00:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/266157\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T00:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T00:38:10","slug":"more-than-a-dozen-residents-displaced-after-a-fire-in-scranton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/266157\/","title":{"rendered":"More than a dozen residents displaced after a fire in Scranton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More than a dozen people displaced after a fire at an apartment complex in <a data-ylk=\"slk:Scranton;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/section\/lackawanna-county\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Scranton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officials say crews were called around 5 pm to Amos Towers on Jefferson Avenue for a fire that started in one of the apartments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Scranton Fire Department says the sprinkler system contained the fire; however, crews worked for hours trying to shut off the water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Several apartments had heavy water damage, forcing more than a dozen residents to evacuate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Six people were taken to a motel, and family members took several others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Much of the damage had been cleaned up by Saturday afternoon by Servpro, said resident Marla Zabada. The building&#8217;s interior Saturday looked very different than how it appeared less than 24 hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It looked like a warzone,&#8221; Zabada said. &#8220;It was just horrible&#8230;water gushing all over the place; at least an inch or two of water on the floor, which was all muddy and dirty, like I said, ceilings coming down. When I first walked in, it was just frightening. It was frightening for me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"More than a dozen people displaced after a fire at an apartment complex in Scranton.
