\t\t\tOBITUARY\t\t<\/p>\n
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Anne Margaret (DeCusatis) Serfes, 69, who left us on August 4, 2026 after a long courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). In her final hours, she was surrounded by her loving family at Saint Lukes Hospice in Bethlehem, PA. <\/p>\n
Anne was born on September 18, 1956 to Pasquale and Arleeda DeCusatis in Hazelton, PA. She grew up in a strong loving family and community, graduated from Hazleton High School in 1974 and Penn State University in 1978 with a B.A. After graduation she worked in the Allentown-Bethlehem area and met and married her soulmate Michael E. Serfes who was attending Lehigh University. She had two wonderful children; Audrey and George, earned her R.N. at the age of fifty and worked at Aria Health in Buck County where she received an award for excellence in nursing. <\/p>\n
Anne was known for her kindness, quick wit, improvisational skills, adventurous spirit and was a strong proponent of the Democratic Party and its ideals. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and person. In the face of death and looming hospice care, she showed no fear. When the doctors asked her how she could be so uncommonly brave she stated: \u201cYou can die with dignity or die like a dog. I chose to die with dignity. I had as good of a life as a human can hope for and have no regrets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anne is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Michael E. Serfes of Bethlehem, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Josh Ihler of Shoreline, WA; son, George Serfes of Bethlehem; and her two grandchildren that she absolutely loved, Oscar and Alice. Other close family include her older loving sister Patricia and husband Joseph Huxta of Macungie, PA, and their children Jennifer, Joseph and wife Sarah, Elizabeth and husband Gregory Conant and Alison. In addition, she adored her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Lastly, her brother Stanley and Cynthia DeCusatis from Georgetown, TX and their sons Nathan and Gabriel. <\/p>\n
