FRANKLIN TWP., Pa. – A fire tore through a Franklin Township home late Saturday night, leaving one person dead.<\/p>\n
The fire was reported Saturday night at around 11:20 p.m. on Cherry Hill Road in Franklin Township, according to a news release from the Carbon County Coroner\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Authorities say multiple fire departments from throughout Carbon County were dispatched to assist the Franklin Township Fire Company with the initial response.<\/p>\n
The fire was extinguished during the early morning hours on Sunday, at which time the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was requested to respond to the scene to conduct an investigation, according to the coroner.<\/p>\n
The release says during the investigation by the State Police Fire Marshal, the remains of an individual were discovered within the residence. At 12:18 p.m., the Carbon County Coroner\u2019s Office was notified and requested to respond.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival and following a preliminary investigation, the individual was pronounced deceased by Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Leighton at 12:45 p.m., according to the coroner\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to assist in determining the cause and manner of death. The identity of the deceased individual has not been released.<\/p>\n
