Runners in Lackawanna County honored late boxing trainer Paul “Hook” O’Malley in a charity race, with proceeds supporting the American Cancer Society. <\/p>\n

SCRANTON, Pa. \u2014 On Sunday, in Lackawanna County<\/a>, runners took off in memory of Paul “Hook” O’Malley.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The “1-mile Firecracker Race” along North-South Road in Scranton honored the late local boxing trainer who succumbed to cancer back in 1992.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Organizers say the race is a testament to the great love and devotion O’Malley’s family and friends have for his memory and the cause of helping those who are battling cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It feels good giving back to the community and supports those that are in that critical condition. It’s a good support for them,” said Abass Rabo from Wilkes-Barre.<\/p>\n
