{"id":266754,"date":"2026-08-17T08:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T08:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/266754\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T08:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T08:36:09","slug":"norfolk-southerns-safety-train-helps-prepare-pittsburgh-first-responders-for-railroad-emergencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/266754\/","title":{"rendered":"Norfolk Southern\u2019s \u2018Safety Train\u2019 helps prepare Pittsburgh first responders for railroad emergencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/https3A2F2Fcloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com2Fcmg2FJWVIMKIIYBHLNJU7ILCKPLRKAI-o6o0BI-e17.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-image-1294795\" alt=\"\"   loading=\"eager\" decoding=\"async\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VIDEO: Norfolk Southern is holding free, hands-on training for first responders using a special train to simulate emergencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Safety Train was in Pittsburgh last week as part of Norfolk Southern\u2019s Operation Awareness and Response (OAR) program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday, Pittsburgh firefighters and medics participated in the training, learning how to respond to railroad emergencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Safety Train travels through 22 states where Norfolk Southern operates, with 17 stops scheduled this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials say they try to train as many first responders as they can.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAn incident could happen where we don\u2019t have someone right there,\u201d said Heather Garcia of Norfolk Southern. \u201cSo, a lot of times, working with first responders is super important so that, if they\u2019re the first ones to the scene, they know what to do, and we know what is going on before we pull up, and we\u2019re able to help out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OAR program launched in 2015.
