SALUD Pilates and Wellness Studio in Ridgewood held its grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 15.<\/p>\n

SALUD Pilates and Wellness Studio<\/a>, a small Latina-owned boutique Pilates studio, opened its doors on Saturday, Aug. 15, in Ridgewood<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The studio, located at 475 Fairview Ave., was founded by Jocelyn Morel, a 24-year-old Ridgewood native, who felt that the neighborhood was in need of accessibility in the fitness industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like nowadays, fitness is kind of like a scary thing with how it\u2019s a \u201ctrend,\u201d Morel said. \u201cBut I feel like when people feel like they\u2019re comfortable and they\u2019re in a space where it\u2019s accessible to them, it doesn\u2019t feel like they\u2019re trying to feel like \u2018everyday wellness\u2019 to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of the classes they offer at SALUD include mat pilates, yin yoga, power yoga, sound bath events and wellness events, where Morel hopes to collaborate with other wellness brands in the community. Classes are small and are limited to about seven or eight people. According to an email sent by Morel, \u201cRather than trying to create a large fitness facility, my goal is to create something personal and community-oriented. I want people to know their instructor, recognize the person next to them on the mat and feel like they have a place in the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

They also provide green juices, wellness shots, tote bags, claw clips and socks for sale.<\/p>\n

As a Ridgewood native, Morel loves to see the changes the neighborhood has had over the years, recognizing that although it is a stigma, it can be beneficial to the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like that\u2019s kind of a stigma, the whole idea of how neighborhoods are changing,\u201d said Morel. \u201cBut I think that if we kind of change our perspective on it, and almost like, \u201cif you can\u2019t beat them, join them,\u201d I think that we\u2019ll just all have space in this community. And I think that\u2019s kind of what I\u2019m trying to do here, to prove that someone who is Latina, born and raised in Ridgewood, we can do it too.\u201d<\/p>\n
