{"id":267423,"date":"2026-08-18T08:46:24","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T08:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/267423\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T08:46:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T08:46:24","slug":"24-million-project-will-transform-battleship-new-jersey-nbc10-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/267423\/","title":{"rendered":"$24 million project will transform Battleship New Jersey \u2013 NBC10 Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/battleshipnewjersey.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Battleship New Jersey Museum &amp; Memorial<\/a> has announced a $24.25 million redevelopment project aimed at transforming the visitor experience and making critical infrastructure improvements aboard the historic ship in Camden.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the project represents the largest capital investment in the Battleship since it opened as a museum and memorial in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Plans include an approximately $9.5 million landside visitor center, a $5.5 million parking structure at Wiggins Marina and more than $6 million in improvements aboard the ship.<\/p>\n<p>The project is supported by $19.8 million in tax credits awarded through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority&#8217;s Cultural Arts Facilities Expansion, or CAF\u00c9, program.<\/p>\n<p>Museum officials said the investments are intended to create a more accessible and welcoming arrival experience while expanding educational and exhibition opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter successfully preserving the Battleship\u2019s physical future through her historic dry docking in 2024, our responsibility is to build an institution around her that can thrive for generations,\u201d\u00a0said Marshall Spevak, Chief Executive Officer of the Battleship New Jersey Museum &amp; Memorial.\u00a0\u201cThis project will fundamentally change how visitors arrive, how they experience the ship, and how we sustain this national treasure over the long term. It will also bring more visitors to Camden and create new activity along the waterfront, supporting the surrounding community. Future generations deserve the opportunity to experience this extraordinary ship and understand what it represents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials said construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.
