ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Trexler Park and Cedar Creek Park in Allentown will be connected, in part thanks to a big financial boost from the state.<\/p>\n
$545,750 will help connect the two parks at Cedar Crest Boulevard, according to a news release from the offices of Rep. Mike Schlossberg and Sen. Nick Miller.<\/p>\n
The lawmakers say the award comes from the Pennsylvania Multimodal Transportation Fund, which supports highway, bridge, aviation, port, bike and pedestrian projects across Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The grant helps demonstrate a strong commitment to safe bike routes that connect two of the region\u2019s most prominent parks, helping to advance Allentown\u2019s Citywide Bike Plan, according to Schlossberg and Miller.<\/p>\n
In 2025, Allentown approved the final version of its Citywide Bike Plan which detailed infrastructure improvements city leaders would take to make Allentown safe for bike users, the lawmakers say.<\/p>\n
The lawmakers say building a connector between Cedar Beach and Trexler Park was a short-term priority to connect well-established off-road bike paths that would make traveling throughout Allentown safer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The connection between Trexler Park and Cedar Beach is part of $54 million in transportation projects announced in this round by the Shapiro administration through the Pennsylvania Multimodal Transportation Fund, according to the news release.<\/p>\n
\u201cAllentown has some incredible parks and trail networks,\u201d said Schlossberg.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, it is hard to take advantage of the proximity of these parks and trails to move from one side of the city to the other side. I am thrilled Pennsylvania will be investing in the city\u2019s efforts to connect neighborhoods across Allentown and make our roadways safer for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cConnecting Trexler Park and the Rose Garden\/Cedar Beach area closes a critical gap in the MLK Trail network and moves us closer to creating a continuous, connected trail system across Allentown,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n
