BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE CO. \u2014 An Allentown man whose driver’s license has been suspended for more than two decades is facing charges following a traffic stop in Luzerne County, according to Butler Township Police.<\/p>\n
Police said officers were conducting an aggressive driving enforcement detail along the 100 block of South Hunter Highway around 4 p.m. Aug. 6 when an officer spotted a vehicle traveling 68 mph in a posted 40 mph zone.<\/p>\n
Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 64-year-old John Garland Eden, of Allentown.<\/p>\n
According to a criminal complaint, Eden told the officer his driver’s license had been suspended following a previous DUI conviction.<\/p>\n
Police said a review of Eden’s driving record showed his operating privileges have been suspended since 2005. Court records also showed Eden had four previous convictions for driving while under a DUI-related suspension.<\/p>\n
Eden was charged with being a habitual offender and driving under DUI suspension, both misdemeanor offenses. He also faces several summary traffic violations.<\/p>\n
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month in Magisterial District Court.<\/p>\n
