BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – The Berks Book Bonanza returned full force this past July, and according to event organizers, sale numbers reflect those sentiments.<\/p>\n
A news release from Berks County Public Libraries says the wildly successful five-day book sale raised $140,000, marking the highest-grossing sale in the organization\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
Organizers say thousands of visitors attended the event, with Sunday alone drawing more than 1,800 shoppers eager to browse the collection of donated materials.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are absolutely thrilled with the results of this year\u2019s sale,\u201d said Judy Ellsworth, Berks Book Bonanza vice-president.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are incredibly grateful to the donors, shoppers, and volunteers who helped make it such a tremendous success. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the County of Berks for generously providing the space that allows us to collect, organize, and hold such a large-scale event. We could not have achieved this milestone without the support of our community and our generous host,\u201d Ellsworth says.<\/p>\n
Berks Book Bonanza is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is supported entirely by volunteers. Its book sale takes place in July at the Berks County South Campus in Mohnton.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from the sale are reinvested into the Berks County community through donations to each public library location and educational scholarships for women. Leftover funds will be set aside for ongoing and future expenses.<\/p>\n
This year, the organization says it will distribute $50,000 each to its two supporting nonprofits, Friends of Berks County Public Libraries and the American Association of University Women Reading Branch.<\/p>\n
Sale organizers say they are looking to resume collections for the next sale this fall at 400 E. Wyomissing Ave, Mohnton.<\/p>\n
Donations will be accepted on Mondays and Tuesdays from September 14 to November 10 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, except for Monday holidays.<\/p>\n
