BRECKNOCK TWP., Pa. – The track at Maple Grove is expected to be quiet for a while.<\/p>\n
“Maple Grove is one of our top tourist attractions in Berks County and has been for many years, so it’s super important, particularly to the southern part of Berks County,” said Heather Zimmerman with Experience Berks.<\/p>\n
Maple Grove Raceway is home to a long history of racing and various community festivals.<\/p>\n
The raceway announced on its Facebook page that it will be suspending operations for “strategic refocusing, restructuring and regrouping.”<\/p>\n
This announcement comes after a recent ownership change.<\/p>\n
69 News reporter Tom Rader asked Zimmerman what type of feedback tourism bureau Experience Berks has been getting.<\/p>\n
“Only positive feedback, actually. We talk very closely with the general manager there, and he spoke very highly of the new ownership and the new directions that they were going,” she said.<\/p>\n
Staff members on site say they have no additional information to provide regarding this latest announcement and what the future could hold for the storied raceway.<\/p>\n
“A little bit of a surprise, but we are going to focus on the positive and our partners as we always do, and we’re hoping that Maple Grove comes out of this restructuring and replanning stronger than ever,” she said.<\/p>\n
The International Hot Rod Association acquired the raceway late last year, and the track dates back to the 60’s.<\/p>\n
